Snow Covered Christmas Tree

E wanted a real Christmas tree this year so we brought one home this week.  It makes the house smell so wonderful I think it might be our new standard.  I decided to keep it simple and only add a few clear ornaments, which I already had, and decorate it with hand-cut white paper snowflakes.  I cut a few new ones each night so by the 25th, we should be having a White Christmas even though we’re in Florida. 😉

Put a Bird On It! Michelle Morin’s Watercolor Pillows

Some time ago, I purchased this little Owl print on Etsy via UnitedThread by Michelle Morin. Michelle’s watercolors are so enchantingly vivid and beautiful that I wanted one in my home, to not only remind me to see the beauty in nature but for inspiration from an artist who has met her calling.

Today after work, I stopped by the mall to drop off a box at the Post Office and wandered down to Anthropologie – a store that always uplifts me because it is filled with so many beautiful and quirky curiosities.  I walked by one of their lovely sofas and saw something familiar…it was “my” little owl perched on a pillow.  It was odd to see him there.  I instantly got excited for my fellow Etsy Seller.  What a thrill it must be to see your art in a major retailer like Anthropologie.  It reminded me that the world is small.  And to aim for the stars. Way to go, Michelle!

Michelle Morin Bird PillowAnd because I recently started watching Portlandia, I couldn’t resist linking to this skit, “Put a Bird On It!” Too funny. 🙂

Special Edition: In My Home {West Elm}

Typically I use the “In My Home” posts to highlight vintage or handmade items that I love and are part of my own abode.  But, of course, there are lots of items in my home that don’t fit into those two categories…you know, the “new” stuff from major retailers…like West Elm. ❤

I have been a fan of West Elm for a long time.  I got their first catalogue when I was a freshman in college way back in 2002!  So, I guess I’ve been a fan for a decade.  Yeah.  And they’ve only gotten better and more refined with age, they’ve really honed in on a comfortable, affordable and modern style that appeals to many.  They always have bright and fresh color palettes and keep with the trends, while not following too closely.  They have also embraced the handmade movement, partnering with artists and craftsman to deliver unique quality products.  But enough of me gushing…on to the reason for the post.

West Elm Orlando is hosting a Facebook contest, “Show Us Your West Elm + Win” so I thought it would be fun to join the party.  Here’s the photo I entered of my bedroom.  You can click on the link above to go to the facebook page, view the other submissions, and like your favorite!
